It Only Takes Caring and Time To be Part of the Virtual Village. Here are Some Things to Do to Be Helpful to Caregivers and Help #ProtectKids365
- Call parents/caregivers you know and care about just to check in, let them vent, tell them a joke, make them laugh, remind them to breathe
- Call/FaceTime family/friends and ask to talk to their kids so caregivers can take a five-minute break
- Ask kids what has changed for them since staying at home
- Have story time . . . online! Read storybooks to friends’/relatives’ children via screen-time, and remember to show the pictures
- Have an online singalong (especially if you play an instrument, including a kazoo)
- Do short meditations with kids
- Cook and/or have meals online with relatives/friends across the miles
- Hold virtual game night; it doesn’t have to be high tech
- Netflix and chat, anyone? Have virtual parties while you are watching shows together
- Have a “Masked Singer” party
- Schedule and have play dates virtually
- Do art activities together and/or virtually
- Have a virtual art exhibit by sharing kids art online
- Work outs with kids (educate small canned goods can make good weights)
- If you are a parent/caregiver and your own children are able to safely be on the other side of a door for 5-10 minutes put yourself in “caregiver time out”
- If you’re a parent/caregiver, learn more about child development to be aware of neurotypical child behaviors at any given age
- Be creative, be realistic, be patient
- If you see something suspicious, report
- If you hear something that seems suspicious, report
