Child and Adolescent Protection Center (CAP-C) at Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC)
CAP-C specializes performing medical check-ups for child abuse specifically tailored to the nature of the allegation and sensitive to the child’s emotional and physical state. CAP-C accepts Medicaid and Private Insurance. Clients may be eligible to have appointment covered by the DC Crime Victims Compensation program if their insurance does not cover costs.

Crime Victims Compensation Program
The Crime Victims Compensation Program provides financial assistance and reimbursement to innocent victims of violent crime and their families with crime-related expenses.
Compensable expenses include, but are not limited to, funeral and burial costs, medical and mental health expenses, lost wages, loss of support, crime scene clean up, and temporary emergency shelter and relocation. Crime Victims Compensation staff conduct interviews to determine needs, process claims, and provide referrals to other victim service agencies in the District of Columbia.

SAFE Advocates at Domestic Violence Intake Centers are available to help survivors of intimate partner violence or sexual assault. All SAFE services are free and confidential.

Virginia Williams Family Resource Center
The central intake office for families in need of housing to request any form of housing support by completing a needs assessment to determine eligibility for shelter placement. Intakes usually take about 2 hours so families are encouraged to come when they can dedicate a full day to this process.

The Access HelpLine at 1(888)7WE-HELP or 1-888-793-4357 is the easiest way to get connected to services provided by the Department of Behavioral Health and its certified behavioral health care providers. This 24-hour, seven-day-a-week telephone line is staffed by behavioral health professionals who can refer a caller to immediate help or ongoing care. The Access Helpline can activate mobile crisis teams to respond to adults and children who are experiencing a psychiatric or emotional crisis and are unable or unwilling to travel to receive behavioral health services.
