Child Abuse Prevention Month – 2025

For three decades, Safe Shores has been a beacon of hope, healing, and justice for children and families affected by abuse.
While many things have changed – staff members, location, programs, and services offered – one thing has remained steadfast through the years: Safe Shores’ dedication to the children and families we serve through the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) model.
We invite supporters past, present, and future to join us as we mark this important milestone on November 12, 2025. Save the date, and stay tuned for more information!
Alongside our intervention and healing work, preventing child abuse is central to Safe Shores’ mission. From establishing our Prevention and Outreach Program in 2014 to becoming the DC Chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA) in 2023, Safe Shores stands firmly in the belief that informed, safe, and trusted adults are the first line of defense in protecting children from abuse.

Safe Shores joins PCAA in commemorating Child Abuse Prevention Month every April. Watch this short message from Executive Director Michele Booth Cole, where she shares three ways you can support child victims and Safe Shores — this month, this year, and beyond.

DON’T MISS THIS FREE WEBINAR!
From A.I to Gen Z and Beyond
Protecting Kids in the Digital Age
April 30th from 1PM – 2:15 PM
In today’s hyper-connected world, keeping children safe online is one of the most pressing challenges of our time. For Gen Alpha and Gen Z, the internet is where they learn, play, and connect — but it’s also where threats can lurk in every swipe, scroll, and click. As a caregiver, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. The dangers are real—but so are the solutions.
Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, educator, youth-serving professional, or child advocate, you don’t want to miss this must-attend event for anyone serious about keeping children of every age safe online.
Safe, trusted, informed adults are children’s best defense.
Can’t attend the webinar? Register by April 30th and the recording will be available to you following the live session!

Support Safe Shores in April and Beyond with a Sustaining Gift
As we mark 30 years of providing safety, support, and a path toward healing for children and families, we have a special request: Will you join the LifeSavers Giving Society?
When we launched this giving community in 2022, just nine members contributed nearly $10,000 annually. Today —thanks to the generosity of people like you — the LifeSavers Giving Society has grown to 36 individuals and families giving more than $34,500 each year to sustain Safe Shores’ mission.
Now is an especially opportune time to join. When you become a LifeSaver between April 1 and April 25, the Safe Shores Board of Directors will match the total value of your first year of giving until we reach $5,000 raised — doubling your impact for children who need it most.
