The Child Safety Foundations training series is an updated, foundational prevention program designed to strengthen adults’ ability to protect children from sexual abuse. The series builds on Darkness to Light’s evidence-informed approach while helping adults translate knowledge into clear, actionable prevention behaviors. Each training uses videos that share the voices of experts with lived experience and in the field, paired with interactive discussions.
From Bystander to Upstander
An “upstander” is someone who chooses to act when they see warning signs, boundary violations, or moments where a child may be vulnerable. Go beyond theoretical knowledge and learn practical skills for protecting children. This evidence-informed training teaches adults how to be an upstander in child sexual abuse prevention and response. Learn about boundary violations and inappropriate behaviors, and discover how adults can make interventions that reinforce boundaries and protect children. For more information, see here (PDF).

Conversations About Safety from Abuse
Having age-appropriate, open conversations about our bodies, sex, and boundaries is an important step in protecting children from sexual abuse. Talking about personal safety and sex creates a protective bond between parent and child, increases confidence for both, and instills knowledge that makes children and teens much less vulnerable. This evidence-informed training teaches how to create space for open, age-appropriate dialogue where children feel seen, heard, and supported. For more information, see here.
