Throughout the next few weeks, Safe Shores – The DC Children’s Advocacy Center has an abundance of trainings, panels, and more ways you can get involved, take action, learn more and raise awareness of child abuse prevention.
Safe Shores – The DC Children’s Advocacy Center is committed to being a safe, helpful, and trustworthy resource, available to everyone who needs our services and support. Due to COVID-19, we are operating in a hybrid environment – combining in-person and remote work – and observing federal and local government public health protection guidelines. Masks are required on-site, and COVID-19 screening (questions and temperature check) is conducted upon arrival.
We want Safe Shores’ people and resources to be readily accessible to everyone who needs them. Here are the direct points of contact on our team for forensic interviews, mental health support, client advocacy, MDT matters, child abuse prevention training, fundraising, media, as well as general, non-urgent inquires.

Every April since 1983, child-serving organizations across the nation come together for Child Abuse Prevention Month – to shed light on an issue that pervades and impacts every one of us, regardless of class, race, age, or culture.
Child abuse affects us all, and it’s up to each one of us to prevent it. Join us in growing a better tomorrow for all children, together!
Child Abuse Prevention Month is an opportune time to plant seeds of support for all children. Investing in the specialized intervention, hope, healing, and prevention work that Safe Shores provides ensures that the children and families we serve can focus on healing. Any gift, no matter the size, is an invaluable resource in helping safe and happy children bloom.

Supporting Safe Shores doesn’t have to mean a monetary donation. You can help us plant the seeds of prevention by sharing the work we do with your community.
Download and share the pre-written social media posts in our supporter toolkit during April to help Safe Shores sow the seeds for child abuse prevention education. The more adults who know child abuse prevention techniques, the better all children’s futures will be.
Child Abuse Prevention Month is the time to implore adults to PAY ATTENTION TO CHILDREN, all children, their needs, safety, and wellbeing. Considering how widespread and endemic child abuse is and the pervasive impact of childhood trauma on our society, pulling out all the stops every April to sound the alarm and call adults to action is warranted. It’s worth all the effort to remind us why it’s in everyone’s best interest to keep children safe.”
This Child Abuse Prevention Month, we are growing a better tomorrow for all children, together. As any gardener knows, for plants to thrive, they need a wide variety of essentials. There’s no one thing responsible for flourishing fauna – light, water, soil, space, and nutrients all work together for a garden to bloom.
For children impacted by abuse, each program at Safe Shores works in tandem to help them tell their story, receive the resources they need, and heal. YOU are an essential part of the Safe Shores community garden.
Your support during Child Abuse Prevention Month will help children flourish, and to show our thanks, we are giving five supporters something to help their living space “bloom” with springtime décor! Safe Shores has collaborated with The Gorilla and The Pig, owned and operated by our very own therapist on staff, Jessica Lopez-Enriquez, to create this exclusive line of ink-painted floral wreaths, perfect for spring.
To be eligible to win a wreath, show your support by doing just one of the following:
